AFL Premiership 2020 Semifinals Expert Analysis

With the 2020 AFL season steamrolling into its quarterfinal round, it’s time to take a look at this weekend’s quickly approaching matches. With four teams remaining in the chase to claim this season’s AFL Championship title, let’s find out where the best Australian Football betting value lies in the two seminal clashes that will take place beginning on Friday, Oct. 9, along with their AFL odds.

AFL 2020 Semifinals Predictions Take Center Stage!

Richmond Tigers Vs St Kilda Saints

Richmond was on the wrong end of a humbling 69-54 road loss against Brisbane in their Round 1 qualifying final matchup on Friday. The Tigers got a good effort from midfielder Dion Prestia the last time out and they will get a boost from the return of forward Tom Lynch for this matchup. The Tigers had won five straight until losing to the Lions.

St Kilda got past the Western Bulldogs 67-64 in a tight affair on Friday, but the Saints has also dropped two of their last five games while falling to Melbourne in Round 14 and West Coast in Round 17. The bad news is that the Saints will be without Paddy Ryder who is out for the season with a hamstring injury, as well as instrumental backman Jake Carlisle who has left the hub to be with his partner for the birth of their child. Ben Long will also miss this affair because of suspension

The last time these two teams met in June, St Kilda recorded an emphatic 93-67 blowout win, but I don’t think that’s going to be the case this time around as I expect a focused Richmond squad to get the narrow win.

While St Kilda has the slightly better offense, Richmond gave up 123 fewer points than the Saints during the regular season and I believe the Tigers’ superior defense will serve them well in this showdown.

Pick: Richmond 71 St Kilda 62

Geelong Cats Vs Collingwood Magpies

Geelong is in the semis despite falling to minor premiership-winning Port Adelaide 58-42 in their Round 1 qualifying matchup on Thursday. Collingwood got past West Coast 76-75 in a thriller after dropping two of their final three regular season contests. While Geelong is statistically better at both ends of the field in this matchup, the Cats have lost two of their last three games while Collingwood has gone a polar opposite 2-1 over their last three. The Magpies beat the Cats 57-35 in Round 7 despite being on the road in that contest and I believe the Pies are offering some outstanding value in this rematch affair. I like Collingwood to get it done in this one as a value-packed +120 underdog!

Pick: Collingwood 62 Geelong 57
