UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs Sandhagen MMA Expert Analysis

It’s back to Fight Island we go on Saturday for another version of Fight Night that features an absolutely loaded man card. There are 6 fights in all on the main card, including a pair of fights that will serve as c0-headliners. With so many fights lined up, there are going to be plenty of opportunities to pad your bankroll this weekend.

Let’s take a closer look at the matchups and the UFC odds for the 6 fights set to go on the main card.UFC Fight Night: Moraes vs Sandhagen MMA Expert Analysis

Yousseff Zalal (-165) vs Ilia Topuria (+135)

With the Perez/Almeida fight cancelled, this featherweight bout moves up to the main card. Zalal is coming in at 10-2 and looking for his 4th straight win under the UFC banner. His 3 previous victories in the UFC have come via decision. Topuria is a perfect 8-0 and is making the step up to the UFC after a successful run in Cage Warriors and Brave. He is used to getting things done quickly, but I think this one goes the distance, with Zalal getting the win.

Tom Aspinall (-590) vs Alan Baudot (+415)

It’s a battle of the big boys next, with a pair of heavyweights set to go toe to toe. Aspinall comes in as a heavy favorite after 4 wins in a row, including an opening round KO in his first fight under the UFC banner. This will be the first fight in the UFC for Baudot, who is 8-1 in his pro career. Both of these men have stopping power in their arsenal, but I am taking Aspinall to win by KO.

Markus Perez (+135) vs Dricus Du Plessis (-165)

It’s a middleweight battle next, with both of these fighters looking to continue moving up the ranks. If Perez want to make an upwards move, he needs to break out of a slump that has seen him fall to 10-3. His last UFC fight ended in defeat. Du Plessis is 14-2 and moving into the UFC after a solid run of form that saw him lose just once in his last 10. A good matchup, but I am taking Du Plessis to win it late.

Ben Rothwell (-150) vs Marcin Tybura (+120)

These are a pair of fighters sitting just outside the top 10 in the heavyweight division. A win here might well vault the winner into the top 10. After losing 3 in a row, Rothwell has clawed his way back with 2 wins in a row, including a signature victory over Ovince St. Preux last time out. It has been a similar type of run for Tybura, who is also coming into this fight on the heels of back to back wins. I’m leaning towards Rothwell by decision.

Edson Barboza (-275) vs Makwan Amirkhani (+215)

The co-main event of the night is a featherweight bout featuring a familiar face in the UFC trying to get back on track. That would be Edwin Barboza, who comes into this fight with a 20-9 record, but also 5 losses in his last 6 fights. Amirkhani, on the other hand, is in a decent run of form, winning 3 of his last 4 fights. This would be a nice feather in his cap if he can win. Potential upset here, but I think Barboza digs deep and gets the win by KO.

Marlon Moraes (+105) vs Cory Sandhagen (-135)

Given that these are the #3 and #4 ranked fighters in the bantamweight division, it stands to reason that the winner of this one will set themselves up for a potential title shot. Moraes has won 5 of his last 6 fights, with his most recent being a controversial split decision win over Jose Aldo. Sandhagen, on the other hand, is looking to bounce back after being forced into submission in his last fight against Aljamain Sterling. An evenly matched battle here and I am going with Moraes as the underdog.
