Russian GP Expert Analysis – Formula 1 Odds & Picks

After a bit of a strange race in Italy a couple of weeks ago, normal service was resumed in F1 in the second race in that country, with Lewis Hamilton back on top. We have now had 9 of the 17 races scheduled for this season and it looks as though the Brit is going to be nearly impossible to catch at the top of the driver standings. Stranger things have happened in the world of sports, though, but if anyone is going to make a move on the leader, they need to start doing it this weekend in Russia. Valtteri Bottas looks the most likely to challenge Hamilton, but he needs to start picking up wins instead of consistently finishing second to the best driver in the world. Let’s take a look at the favorites for the Russian Grand Prix, along with their Formula 1 odds.

Formula 1 VTB Russian Grand Prix 2020 Analysis

Lewis Hamilton (-250)

How can you bet against a man who just continues to win week after week? Hamilton is far and away the best driver in the world at the moment and has been for the past several years. He has won 6 of the 9 races in F1 this season and could probably have the championship clinched in no time at all if he continues to set this torrid pace. If you are looking to bet against him at the Russian Grand Prix, you should keep in mind that he has won this race in each of the past 2 seasons. It is a brave bettor who wagers against him.

Valtteri Bottas (+330)

We have said it before, but it is something that bears repeating, where it not for Hamilton, Bottas may well have won a championship or two in his time. He is once again in second place in the standings and is coming off a second place finish in Italy last weekend. He picked up the win in the opening race of the season and has 6 podium finishes since then. Bottas had had success in Russia, winning there in 2017 and finishing just behind Hamilton in each of the last two seasons. If you are gong to bet against Hamilton, this may be the man to put your money on.

Max Verstappen (+550)

It is safe to say that Verstappen’s race to be champion is officially over, as he failed to finish in both races in Italy, the third time that has happened this season. What’s most frustrating about this is that he has been very good in the races that he has finished, winning 1 and landing on the podium in the other 5. That leaves him 3rd in the driver standings, which is exactly where he finished last season. He has not had a lot of joy racing in Russia, with 4th being his best ever finish.

Sergio Perez (+3300)

You need only look at the odds to see the gap that exists between the top 3 drivers in F1 and the rest of the pack. To say that Perez is a longshot here is perhaps putting things rather mildly, as he is yet to finish better than 5th this season. You need to go back to 2018 to find the last time that he was on the podium, so definitely not a wager you can make with any real confidence.
