Top NFL QBs Entering Week 5 Expert Analysis

Will Seattle Seahawks superstar signal-caller Russell Wilson set a new record for most touchdown passes in a single season? Could Green Bay Packers future Hall of Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers or blossoming young Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, overtake Wilson for the league lead in TD passes while helping their respective teams make deep playoff runs? Oh…and what about reigning Super Bowl MVP Patrick Mahomes? With Week 5 of the 2020 NFL regular season almost here, it’s time to take a fun-filled look at the league’s top five quarterbacks through four weeks. Let’s get into action so you can wager on their NFL odds.

The Top NFL Quarterbacks in The League Heading Into Week 5

No. 5 Ben Roethlisberger

Sure, the 38-year-old Roethlisberger is just 26th in passing yards, but Pittsburgh’s franchise quarterback is also 10th in quarterback rating (105.2). Big Ben has thrown seven TD passes and just one interception while completing 67.0 percent of his passes for 777 yards. While Roethlisberger’s stats aren’t nearly as eye-opening with Pittsburgh ranking eighth in rushing, make no mistake about it, Roethlisberger’s return under center has completely transformed the Steelers from a team that went a mediocre 8-8 a year ago, to a legitimate Super Bowl contender this season. Stats be damned, Roethlisberger gets my No. 5 spot on the top quarterbacks list heading into Week 5.

No. 4 Josh Allen

Now in his third season, Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has quickly blossomed into one of the top quarterbacks in the league. After completing 52.8 percent of his passes as a rookie in 2018 and just 58.8 percent of his passes last season, Allen has completed a blistering 70.9 percent of his passes while ranking third in quarterback rating (122.7) and touchdown passes (12) while having thrown just one interception. Allen ranks second in passing yards per game (331.5 ypg) and has been one of the biggest reasons Buffalo is unbeaten in four games heading into Week 5.

No. 3 Patrick Mahomes

Kansas City superstar signal-caller Patrick Mahomes is fourth in quarterback rating (114.1) and tied with Tampa Bay’s Tom Brady for fourth in touchdown passes (11). Mahomes is eighth in passing yards per game (283.5 ypg) and has yet to throw a single interceptions heading into Week 5. Mahomes might be the 2018 league MVP and reigning Super Bowl MVP, but right now, he’s third in my quarterback rankings heading into Week 5.

No. 2 Aaron Rodgers

A year ago, everyone was questioning how much longer the now, 36-year-old quarterback would play after he unfurled a completely mediocre season while generally looking like an aging player that had taken a step backwards. Clearly though, that’s no longer the case with Rodgers being among the league leaders in every significant passing category there is. Green Bay’s franchise superstar leads the league in adjusted QBR (92.8) while ranking second in quarterback rating (128.4), second in touchdown passes (13) and sixth in passing yards per game (303.5 ypg). Rodgers has yet to throw an interception while tossing three TD passes or more three times in four games. Rodgers has clearly turned back the clock and gets the No. 2 spot in my quarterback rankings heading into Week 5.

No. 1 Russell Wilson

Still, just 31-years-old, Russell Wilson leads the NFL in quarterback rating (136.7) and is the only signal-caller with a figure over 128.4. Wilson has thrown a jaw-dropping 16 TD passes and just two interceptions while ranking fourth in QBR (82.8), third in passing yards per game (321.3 ypg) and first in completion percentage (75.2%). Wilson has thrown at least four TD passes three times this season and is undeniably the best deep ball passer in the NFL. More importantly, Seattle has been a perennial winner ever since drafting Wilson in 2012 and making him the starter. Seattle has never had a losing season in eight seasons while reaching the postseason seven times and winning at least one postseason game six times. While we’ve seen some outstanding quarterback play this season, for me, Russell Wilson has been the best in the business through four weeks!
