2020 South Point 400 Expert Analysis – NASCAR Odds & Picks

The NASCAR Cup Series playoffs will be in Las Vegas this weekend as we get down to the Round of 12. The task at hand is simple, which is that 11 drivers need to find a way to slow down Kevin Harvick, who is beginning to open up what looks to be an unassailable lead at the top. Given the form that he has been in all season long, that is a task that is going to be easier said than done. The South Point 400, which will go at the Las Vegas Speedway on Sunday at 7 PM EST, is the first of 3 races in the Round of 12. While the overall goal is to catch Harvick, for others, it’s about picking up valuable points to stay alive and move on to the next round. Let’s take a look at the favorites for Sunday’s race, along with their NASCAR odds.

NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs | 2020 South Point 400 Betting Analysis

Kevin Harvick (+350)

As mentioned earlier, Harvick has been brilliant all season, but he has stepped it up in the playoffs, winning 2 of the 3 races in the Round of 16. He is the clear favorite coming into the weekend, especially since he also has the pole position for this race. One more win in the final races of the season and Harvick will hit double digit victories for the year. He has won at that track twice since 2015 and has landed in the top 10 in each of his last 3 starts in Vegas. Given the form that he is in, it would not be a surprise to see him win again.

Martin Truex Jr. (+550)

The chances of Truex Jr. going on and becoming champion seem pretty slim at this point, as he is down in 6th in the Cup Series standings and well off the pace being set by Harvick. A win here, though, might help him move up as he looks to crack the top 4. While he has had 18 top 10 finishes this season, he has only managed to take 1 checkered flag, but can he double that tally in Vegas? He was on a streak of 5 consecutive top 10 finishes, including a pair of wins, before running 20th there earlier this season. Still, that is a good level of consistency, so he does have a shot.

Denny Hamlin (+650)

Of the 11 drivers chasing Harvick, it is Denny Hamlin who has the best shot at running down the leader, but he needs to start picking up wins ASAP. It is possible that he could get hot because, after all, he does already have 6 wins on the season, but none of those have come in the playoffs. The problem here is that Las Vegas has not been a good track for Hamlin to race at. He has never won there and has only 1 top 10 finish in his last 5 starts in Sin City. Another poor performance here and he may fall too far off the pace.

There are, including this one, 7 races left to go in the playoffs. With each passing race, the odds on Harvick winning the championship are getting shorter and shorter. Right now, he is +140 to win it all, but if he picks up a win this weekend, those odds could drop further still.
